ToolCrib: Tool Inventory
The chainsaw has been at Marc's since March and the serial numbers are nowhere. Keep every tool, where it lives, who borrowed it, and the proof an insurer asks for.
Download on theApp StoreThe day the garage burns or the truck box disappears, the insurer asks for a list: make, model, serial, value, proof you owned it. Almost nobody has that list. The rest of the year the questions are smaller but constant: where is the impact driver, who has the chainsaw, and which battery platform is the money already in.
ToolCrib is that list, kept as you go.
Every Tool, with Its Identity
Name, brand and model, serial number, replacement value, a photo, the purchase date. The serial plate is usually under the battery or on the motor housing; log it once and it is on file for good.
Loans That Come Back
Lend a tool with a borrower and a due date you both saw. Overdue loans float to the top of the list. Mark the loan returned when the tool is back on the shelf, and keep the history of what went out and what came home.
A Spot for Everything
Garage wall, back shed, truck box, the current jobsite. Every tool knows where it lives, so seven in the morning with the truck running is not a search party. Deleting a spot never deletes its tools.
Receipts and Warranties Attached
Photograph the receipt before it fades and keep it on the tool it proves. Warranty end dates live there too, because the end date is the difference between a free repair and a quote.
The Battery Platform Picture
The overview adds up which battery platforms you are already invested in, how many tools ride on each and what they are worth together. Worth a look before buying into a third one.
